Got me looking up all kindsa things. Like how you used to be able to buy 4 cylinder body on frame off roaders with low range.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t try and tell me they were terrible cars, because I KNOW they were...but I still kinda wish stuff like this was out there getting made.

It’s like sometimes I look back and kinda miss this, but if I remember correctly, it really wasn’t that great.

Sportage...Offroaders... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

We had one, a ‘99, Limited, 5-speed, 4WD. It was perfectly reliable for 130k miles, which is when we traded it in on a bigger turd, a 2005 Impala.

That is the end of the complements. The 4WD was a joke. It was a one wheel drive even when 4WD was engaged.

90's Exploders were some damn good cars though, everything but the driving experience.

I drove that thing for 9.5 years. I’ll be honest, I did form an emotional attachment to it because it was my first car, but it was never that good. It wasn’t even that reliable, it left me stranded several times. The only redeeming quality was that it was free.

Mine was made on the day when they installed all the broken sensors. It left me stranded a couple of times, and then of course the next day it’d crank right up.

I wish I had saved the owners manual, had the brochure for the tires still in it, which isn’t surprised since my granddad bought it new.

Oooh that’s funky. Besides the Firestone issue, they seemed to hold together pretty well.

Friend of mine has a ‘93 or so Exploder that’s never really broken down and has well over 150k on it.

I replaced the cam shaft sensor, crank position sensor, throttle position actuator, none of these threw any codes except for the TPA. I was driving it home from San Antonio and it just died on me on the highway. It did restart, but that was the final straw, I traded it in on the 128i 2 weeks later.

My inlaws had one with manual locking hubs, is it mechanically possible to have that be one wheel drive?

It didn’t run much, but to be fair it had 469,000 miles.

The factory auto locking hubs sucked, and open rear diff.

City boy, would never go off a road, into mud on purpose. But I did HORRIBLE things to my crv in the line of duty, made it rear wheel drive only once and had it pushing water with the headlights. I didn’t expect to, but I trucked right on through. It has a U-tube intake with a little drain.
